Letter from Administration

Dear Parents and Students,

We would like to welcome you to Sierra High School. Both of us are very excited about the 2017-2018 school year, and look forward to knowing each and every one of you. The 2017-2018 school year will be one of both new adventures, and one that redefines who Sierra High School is.

After conducting a survey of students, parents, staff, and the community during last schoolyear, it was determined that there were safety concerns with the PM dismissal time. Since the safety of our students is our primary concern, Sierra HS will have a new bell schedule for the 2017-2018 school year (see website). We will be offering a 4 period day with both a morning session that runs from 7:50am to 12:05pm, and an afternoon session that runs from 12:10pm to 4:25pm.

Attendance, academics, and attitude (3 A’s) are key ingredients for every students continued success at Sierra HS. Beginning with the 2017-2018 school year, Sierra HS has established 3A criteria for students wishing to petition to be a 5th-Year Senior, requesting a session change, or wanting to participate in our sports program (see website for more information). Last school year, our sports classes and games took place during the AM session and we noticed that student athletes had an increased failure rate while playing sports. As a result, all students participating in sports for the 2017-2018 school year will be enrolled in the PM session and take their sports class (practice) in the AM session. All games and classes will be held during the AM session so student athletes do not miss classes on a regular basis.

In talking with former Sierra HS alumni, it was the relationships that they built with our staff that was their main source of success. As a result, the staff at Sierra HS has decided that our focus for the upcoming school year is building relationships. It is our goal to have a personal relationship with every one of our students and their family. Through these relationships, the staff at Sierra HS will be better equipped to support our students’ interests and needs, as well as helping them achieve their future goals.

Thank you for choosing Sierra High School. If you have any questions, please feel free to visit our website at http://bernardinosierra.ss13.sharpschool.com/ or call us at (909) 388-6478.

Sincerely,

Hector Murrieta, Principal
Ryan Knutson, Vice Principal
